You can shower in 2 days. There is a waterprnof dressing that is placed over the incision that will be covered by gauze. Home Health Care Nursing will show you how to cover your incision(s).

You will not be able to swim for at least 3-4 months. There is not enough strength in the arm to assist you if you were to slip or fall. You will be able to pool walk 6 weeks aHer surgery.

You will not be able to drive for 5 weeks. It is illegal to drive with the sling in place.

Q: How often should I ice?

I would ice as much as possible, The more you ice, the less swelling, the less pain you will have after surgery. Please make sure there is clothing between your skin and the ice/ice machine.

Q: What kind of clothes should I wear?

l would wear a loose button-down shirt or one size larger cotton I-shirt.

Q: When does physical therapy begin?

Physical therapy in the home will begin the day after surgery.

Q: Do I need to take the pain medicine?

Yes, I would take the pain medicine every 4-6 hours for the first 3 or 4 days to prevent breakthrough pain. You can transition to Tylenol as needed after that.

Q: How long do I have to wear the sling?

You will be wearing the sling with pillow for 5 weeks around the clock, including sleeping. You can remove the sling for physical therapy and hygiene.
